Welcome to Voices Rising
Join us! Help give the children of Uganda a voice.
The facts: There is a largely unknown conflict occurring in Uganda. More than 65,000 children and teens in Northern Uganda have been abducted-enough to fill a small football stadium. Another 12,000 children have been killed, and many more have been terrorized, abused, and exploited over the past 20 years by a group calling themselves the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). The LRA secretly captures these young people, treating them like slaves; they rape the girls and force the boys to become child soldiers. Sometimes the abducted children are obligated to participate in the killing of other children, including their friends, who attempt escape.
Yet, there is hope. Students have the power to stand up for these children and make a lasting and profound difference in their lives. Please join with us and speak out on behalf of those who are unable to speak for themselves. By creating a student chapter at your school you can help to raise funds and awareness about the devastation in northern Uganda. Together, our efforts will make a world of difference in the lives of the children of Uganda. Join Voices Rising today!

Nelson Mandela, the South African civil rights leader, once said: "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others." It is the young people of our generation that hold an incredible power and potential to effect great change: we can be a powerful voice against the unrecognized injustices occurring in Northern Uganda—and in doings so, we can help give voice to even the smallest child there. |
